Pitta

Pitta is composed of fire and water.  This dosha has the qualities: hot, moist, light, fluid, and sharp. It is seated in the lower part of the stomach and the small intestine.  In the body, Pitta is responsible for metabolism and digestion.  It governs all transformation processes from the tissue to cellular level.  In the mind, Pitta governs discrimination, courage, and confidence.  It is important to maintain a balanced Pitta for the body and mind to function optimally.

Pitta types generally have a medium body frame with some musculature. They tend to have fine, soft hair and their eyes are deep set and intense.  Pittas are very driven and ambitious and will not let any obstacles stop them from achieving success.  They make great leaders as they are very organized and intuitive.  Their appetite is strong and usually prefer three structured meals a day. Pittas will have regular digestion and bowel movements.

When Pitta becomes excessive these normal functions are affected.  Pitta vitiated people may be prone to indigestion and inflammation. They may become irritable and angry when disturbed by minor events.  When Pitta becomes excessive in the mind, people will become judgmental and self-crititcal.  Following Pitta-balancing diets and lifestyle practices can help remedy these issues in the body and mind.
