Vata

Vata is composed of the elements, air and ether.  Based on these elements, Vata qualities include: dry, cold, fast, light, rough, unstable and subtle.  Vata is primarily found in the large intestines.  It is responsible for all movement and absorption in the body.  It is very involved in the circulatory and respiratory systems.  It is responsible for your imagination, sensitivity and enthusiasm.  Balance must be maintained to ensure these functions are carried out properly.

Vata people are disposed to having small frames and long bones.  Their skin is dry and their hair is dark and thin.  Vata people have smaller features and do not usually gain weight easily.

They tend to speak very fast and enthusiastically.  Vatas are very artistic and enjoy working individually.  Their actions will be spontaneous and they will try to pursue many projects at once.

Vata is closely related to the other two doshas, Pitta and Kapha, so imbalances can affect many parts in the body and mind.  When in excess Vatas will be prone to irregular bowel movements and gas.  In the mind, excessive Vata is portrayed through insomnia, fear and anxiety.

Following a Vata pacifying practices and diets can help alleviate symptoms of vitiation.
